25th March Greek Independence Festival

BRIEFLY:
The celebration of
Greek Independence Day from the 4-centuries long subjugation under
the Ottoman Turks began with a simple proclamation by
the Governor of the State honoring Greek Independence as is done
nationally by the President of the United States and the USA senate
[BTW Greece is the only country that is so honored by the USA
government].
With the initiative of Stelios Giannopoulos the proclamation was read
while raising the Greek flag in front of the Capitol. In 2003
leaders of AHEPA came to the honors. In 2004 the raising of the
Greek flag was in conjunction with the dedication of the
Cleisthenis bust [see issue 4 of our journal
www.GreekEthos.org ] in the legislative chambers.
Since then, Vasilis Konstantinidis [foto on the left] has coordinated the event and made it into a festive occasion with lunch being served at the church. Surf through the photo collages of the events since 2003.Click on the picture or the name you'll see a photo collage of the festivities |
